VIV ROGAN - THE BABY CALMER

Viv is a certified Happiest Baby educator and has helped hundreds of new parents calm their babies.

Viv originally trained as a nurse (RN) at Charing Cross Hospital, London and worked in the NHS for sixteen years. For the past 15 years she has been supporting pregnant women as their Birth Doula and new parents with Baby Calming techniques.

Whilst participating at a DONA (Doulas of North America) conference in Vancouver in 2008 Viv was fortunate enough to attend a seminar given by Dr. Harvey Karp, a child development expert who helps parents deal with persistent and demoralising crying of their new-born infants. She was intrigued by The Happiest Baby theory with its common sense approach and how easy it seemed. With Dr.Karp's encouragement Viv decided to enrol in, and subsequently become an educator of The Happiest Baby in the UK. She has been a credited instructor in baby calming (Happiest Baby) since 2008.

HAPPIEST BABY TECHNIQUE

The calming reflex works when you get it exactly right. Dr Karp’s video demonstrates how he has helped babies with these techniques. Viv can help you learn these techniques with her 1:1 or group classes.

Dr Karp's secrets to calming a fussy baby are founded on the 5 S's

  1. Swaddle - to recreate the snug environment in the womb
  2. Side or Stomach Position - the back is the only safe sleeping position, but holding your baby on their side or stomach is the best position to calm
  3. Shush - in the womb the blood flow makes a sound louder than a vacuum cleaner - Viv will help you recreate this
  4. Swing - to recreate the movement your baby experienced in the womb
  5. Suck - this can help fussy babies relax into a deep calm
