About Viv Rogan, Baby Calmer and the Happiest Baby
I have lived in Wimbledon for eighteen years. I trained as a nurse (RN) at Charing Cross Hospital, London and worked in the NHS for sixteen years.
for the past 6 years i have been supporting pregnant women as their birth doula and teaching them the baby calming methods
Whilst participating at a DONA (Doulas of North America) conference in Vancouver in 2007 I was fortunate enough to attend a seminar given by Dr. Harvey Karp, an assistant professor of pediatrics at UCLA School of Medicine and a child development expert.
Dr. Karp is an inspired speaker, passionate about his subject, helping parents who have to deal with persistent and demoralising crying of their new-born infants. I was intrigued by The Happiest Baby theory with its common sense approach and how easy it seemed.
After the presentation I was able to discuss the concept with Dr. Karp and I mentioned to him that we had been using some of his techniques in maternity ward nurseries in the UK 20 years earlier! He was amused by this and said he certainly wasn't claiming to be the first person to use these particular calming methods - it was more about putting a sequence of time honoured, tried and tested techniques together that triggered (what he calls) the calming reflex.
With Dr.Karp's encouragement I decided to enrol in, and subsequently become an educator of The Happiest Baby in the UK.
I have been a credited instructor in baby calming (Happiest Baby) since 2007. I am enthusiastic and totally committed to Dr. Karp's techniques and to helping parents learn these amazing skills which enable them to:
calm their babies more easily and thus
enjoy this very special time with their newborn infants
I have three wonderful sons, but two of them were restless babies and I only wish I had been aware of the calming techniques when they were newborns.
Just call me, Viv Rogan, Baby Calmer -
